Hi friends,
I'm Justin Turner; founder and CEO of SaaS Unicorn. I'm glad you stopped by.
I started SaaS Unicorn in the Fall of 2020 during a time of extreme uncertainty in our country and our economy. Earlier that year, prior to my decision to launch my own business, I decided to leave my "big job" as SVP of Global Sales for a company doing nearly $100M a year in revenue and initiated a search to find my next gig. I wanted to get back into the startup / early-stage world and did my best to network with as many CEOs as possible. I met with hundreds of CEOs. As a result, I gained insight and was exposed to some really amazing emerging technologies. Unicorns.
I wanted to support and work for several of these companies. I think (I hope) they wanted me just as badly. But we kept bumping into the same roadblock: sales executives with my level of experience are expensive and in order to justify my existence the company would need to spend millions of dollars to build infrastructures, buy leads, build teams, etc. In many cases, this would have meant raising money prematurely. And, by the way, I'm not vain enough to call MYSELF expensive as if I'm the only one who can do a good job. All qualified sales and revenue leaders are pricey (if they're any good) and it's usually the highest paid position in a young company. The CEOs I spoke with expressed their frustration in being able to make that CRO hire because of the overwhelming cost.
Now, don't get me wrong, as a senior revenue leader and someone who has a track record of building sales engines from scratch, I could bring tremendous value. But without the investment, that value might be diluted to just a few hours per week. Could I close deals and do other things for these companies? Sure, but you could hire someone at half my salary to do that. It's like buying a Corvette but only driving the speed limit. My value comes at scale.
Some of these companies were aaaaa-mazing. It wouldn't be fair to ask them to go out and raise money just to hire me. So, I wound up advising each of them to spend their money on quota-carrying AEs, lead generation, marketing and even product.
But, it got me thinking... What if I COULD help them? Even for just a few hours a week.
I could help with things like:
It's normal sales consulting stuff, but here's the disruptive part:
----> Instead of unclear and inflated prices, our fees are easy and transparent.
----> Instead of locking clients into a long term commitment, we give flexibility.
----> Instead of focusing on how to lock up the next project, we focus on results.
SaaS Unicorn was born and the mission is obvious:
Empower startups and young companies in the SaaS space with revenue leadership and experienced guidance that is accessible, inexpensive, and flexible with a short-term ROI.
SaaS Unicorn is itself a startup That's okay. We'll grow while our clients grow. After all, it takes a unicorn to know a unicorn.
Sincerely yours,
Justin
Our program is meant to be easy, reasonably priced, and low commitment.
We start every new engagement with a "State of the Union" audit and deep discovery. This process has a fixed price and there is no commitment to continue after receiving our analysis.
Should you choose to continue, we build a mutually agreed upon scope of work that will shape focus, time, duration, and spend. While there is a minimum threshold and small commitment during this phase, the program is meant to drive results in a way that provides flexibility for our clients
